Allan Chaney Explodes on Recruiting Scene

One of the hottest rising seniors in the country in the 2008 basketball recruiting class is Allan Chaney , a 6-8, 220-pound power forward out of New London (CT). Chaney has enjoyed an outstanding last few months in AAU competition and now boasts 13 high-major Division 1 scholarship offers including one from national champion Florida.

“His break out point was the Reebok U camp in Philly in early July,” said Kalvin Bunkley, Chaney’s head coach for the Connecticut Phenom Elite. “He played hard and tough. That sparked interest, and then he backed it up. He went to the Reebok East camp and then the West Virginia Jamfest. At West Virginia, he had his statement game. We played the D-One Greyhounds, a team with a lot of good players, and he had 20 points and 15 rebounds. That solidified him as a major prospect.”

In his junior season at New London, Chaney averaged 24 points and 14 rebounds per contest. But he was more of a perimeter player despite his size, something that has changed this summer.
