Camp Report: Massie Reflects on Experience

Bobby Massie is one of the most physically impressive prospects in the state of Virginia’s 2008 class, and Virginia Tech is in very serious contention to land him. The Hokies are in a recruiting battle with Clemson and Georgia, but helped themselves on Saturday with the 6-7, 330-pound OL/DL out of Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, VA).

“It was my fourth time being up there,” Massie said of his visit to Tech, which had offered prior to the camp. “I had seen the campus and everything there before. After the camp, I talked to Coach Stinespring, the offensive line coach, the defensive line coach, Cornell Brown, some of the players and the head coach. Coach Beamer talked about how great of an athlete I am. He said I’m the most athletic big man he has seen in 20 years. He was telling me how successful I could be at Virginia Tech.”

The talented prospect showed his stuff on both sides of the ball. The Tech coaches seem to like him as an offensive tackle, but defensive tackle is being mentioned as a possibility.

“During camp, they had us do two sessions – one on offense and one on defense,” Massie said. “In the one-on-ones, I mostly did offense. But one time, when Coach Beamer and Coach Stinespring were watching me, I was a defensive player and I beat my guy. I beat him before he ever got to move. I was quick off the line and just went under him. Coach Beamer told me and my mom that I could play on either side of the ball.”
