Boyce Expected in Blacksburg Saturday

6-4, 200-pound Landstown (Virginia Beach, VA) prospect Xavier Boyce is expected to be in Blacksburg this Saturday for Virginia Tech’s second senior camp. Boyce may not participate, but just getting a visit is key for the Hokies as another program has emerged as the current favorite.

“Obviously, Virginia Tech has offered,” Landstown head coach Steve Canter said of Boyce’s recruitment. “Auburn, Marshall, Northern Illinois, Clemson, U-Conn and Rutgers are his other main offers. He has said he is kind of favoring Northern Illinois right now. [Former Landstown head coach and current Northern Illinois running backs coach] Chris Beatty has done a great job recruiting him. He is also supposed to go to Virginia Tech on July 14th. I know he still likes Virginia Tech a ton.”

While not a major 1A program, Northern Illinois should be considered a serious contender here for several reasons.

“Coach Beatty has done an excellent job recruiting him, so going back with the relationship they have has a lot to do with it,” Canter said. “Xavier said he could make an immediate impact, too.”
