First Colonial (Virginia Beach, VA) running back Tony Gregory wanted to commit to Virginia Tech at last Saturday’s camp, but decided to take some time to think it over. It didn’t take long and the 5-11, 175-pound prospect is now the 9th high school senior to commit to Virginia Tech for the 2008 recruiting class.

“He committed to Virginia Tech this morning,” First Colonial head coach Jae Clark said.

“He liked that Virginia Tech has a good, down to earth staff. They do a good job of talking to the kids. They do a good job selling their program. It is a good program that has been successful. There are kids from this area that Tony is familiar with. I think he also wanted to get it out of the way so he can focus on his senior season and his academics.”

One of the faster prospects in the state of Virginia’s 2008 class, Gregory ran a hand-timed 4.38 in the 40-yard dash at the Virginia Beach combine. He ran track for the first time this past season and recently posted a time of 11.02 seconds in the 100 meters in the state championship meet.
