Highland Springs Star Visits VT, UVa

Highland Springs (VA) junior defensive lineman Antoine Hopkins enjoyed a busy week last week, making visits to the two schools that have extended scholarship offers. Last Friday, he visited Virginia Tech for a spring practice. On Saturday, he was in Charlottesville for UVa’s spring game. Both trips went well for the 6-2, 265-pound recruit.

Hopkins had visited Virginia Tech before for a game last fall, but this was his first opportunity to really see the campus. It was also his first time seeing a Virginia Tech spring practice.

“When I first got there, I was already expecting good things,” Hopkins said. “I was amazed by how their coaches make you feel like you are a part of the team already. They seemed like genuine people. What you see is what you get…that’s what I was getting from the players. One player was telling me about Coach Beamer and how you wouldn’t even think he cared about football. He said Coach Beamer just talks about your future and doing good on and off the field. Coach Beamer was real, real nice. I also talked to Coach Cav, Coach Wiles and Coach Foster. Everything was great. Everything’s nice there. They have a new academic facility. Practice was good. It was an uptempo practice.”

Hopkins made a visit earlier this spring to UVa for a spring practice/junior day. He returned for the spring game on Saturday.
