Salem’s outstanding junior tandem of LB Kevin Whaley continue to go through the recruiting process, though not much seems to have changed over the past few months. Whaley, the Tidewater Offensive Player of the Year as a junior, has added an offer, though.

“Virginia Tech and Maryland have offered,” Salem head coach Robert Jackson said of Whaley, who rushed for 1,992 yards and scored 37 touchdowns last season.

Last December, Coach Jackson indicated that Virginia Tech had officially offered Whaley and that Akron had officially offered Gibson. He added then that he believed an offer from Virginia Tech was on the way for Gibson.

At this point, Coach Jackson says he has “not seen anything in writing” from the Hokies for Gibson. The 5-11, 225-pound Gibson earned Beach district Defensive Player of the Year this past season.
