Recruiting Video: State of VA Trio

For TSL Pass subscribers, we have added video clips to the profiles of three state of Virginia standouts in 6-2, 195-pound Austin Fuller, 6-2, 190-pound Dyrell Roberts and 6-4, 290-pound Buddy Ruff. Virginia Tech has offered and received a commitment from Fuller, while Tech and UVa have both offered Roberts and Ruff.

As a junior this past season, Austin Fuller was a big-time playmaker at the wide receiver position for Richlands High School. Helping the Blue Tornadoes to a state championship, he set a single season school record for receiving yards with 1,092 and totaled 19 touchdowns on the year. In addition to his offer from Virginia Tech, UVa had expressed very serious interest and was impressed with his highlight video.

Fuller’s highlight tape is impressive, as he shows terrific hands and the ability to break big plays on this level. He will likely start out at wide receiver at Virginia Tech.

Roberts stars for Smithfield High School. He does a number of things for head coach Chris Fraser, as he plays running back, wide receiver, defensive back, and is a returner on special teams. He rushed for over 1,000 yards last season as a junior and made 22 receptions. He had 14 touchdowns on the season, including several punt returns for scores. Defensively, he finished with eight interceptions.

We have added one video clip to Roberts’ recruiting card. It is only from one game, but it shows his big play ability at several positions. He is being recruited by most schools as a wide receiver, though defensive back is certainly an option as well. Virginia Tech and UVa coaches have indicated that they like him at several spots. Very fast, Roberts has run a sub 11-second time in the 100 meters.

As a junior last season, Buddy Ruff played right tackle and along the defensive line for Norview head coach Robert Toran. In this clip (which is only from one game as well), he plays right defensive end in Norview’s 3-3-5 scheme. He earned first-team all-Eastern district honors for his performance along the defensive line last season.

Ruff is being recruited by Virginia and Virginia Tech initially as a defensive tackle. He has camped at UVa, so the ‘Hoos have had a good opportunity to view his skills.
