Class of ’08 Preview: Deep Run’s Talented Duo

Deep Run High School’s (Glen Allen, VA) varsity football squad enjoyed a dream season in 2006, attaining feats including a Colonial district title, an undefeated regular season and a (Division 5) Central Region championship. Two of its most talented juniors will return next season in hopes of duplicating, and perhaps adding to, the success.

These juniors – WR/LB Derek Jackson and RB/DB Wes McDaniel – are also Deep Run’s top prospects for the 2008 class.

“Derek has all the physical tools to be a great linebacker and has the athletic ability to be a strong safety as well,” said former Deep Run head coach Lenny Pritchard, who coached the team from 2002-2006. The team went 12-1 in 2006. “Derek is fast for size and closes ground on opponents very quickly.”

Jackson is 6-2 1/2, 210 pounds. He has been hand-timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.55 seconds and has run an electronic time of 4.62 seconds. An excellent all-around athlete, Jackson, a first-team all-district honors at wide receiver and second-team all-district honors at linebacker in 2006, also plays varsity basketball and runs outdoor track.
