Brandon Barden finished his high school career out in outstanding fashion, winning back-to-back Class A state championships. The 6-5, 220-pound Virginia Tech recruit, a passer, runner and receiver for Lincoln County (Lincolnton, GA), is now all set to move on to the next level as he enrolls in Virginia Tech next month.
For now, Barden is just relaxing – hunting and fishing with his father – and enjoying a second state championship title.
“The second time around, everybody is shooting for you,” said Barden, who had one rushing touchdown and threw for another in the 21-14 win over Clinch County last weekend. “It’s hard to stay on top, but it was great to win back-to-back championships.”
In 2006, Barden, who primarily played quarterback but did see time at receiver as well, rushed for around 600 yards, passed for around 500 yards and had about 200 yards receiving. In the off-season prior to his senior year, he says he “worked on my speed a lot. I got a lot stronger. I felt more effective out there.”
