4-Star LB/S Ready to Set More Visits?

Coffeyville Community College (KS) linebacker/safety prospect Larry Asante has taken one official visit (Iowa State), set two others (Kansas State and Nebraska), and, with more and more schools showing interest, may be close to setting another. Could the 6-1 ½, 215-pound prospect be saving those final two official visit spots for schools closer to his home state of Virginia?

“I’m possibly saving those two spots for schools on the East coast,” said Asante, who added a new offer recently from Texas A&M and is drawing new interest from Clemson and Pittsburgh.

Asante, who played his high school football in Alexandria (VA), may use one of his official visits to the University of Virginia. And it could be soon.

“I talked to Coach [Mike] London [last night]. He’s trying to get the ball rolling to set up a visit,” Asante said. “He told me exactly what he told me before. He has seen film. The staff has seen film. If I visit, they would offer. They are looking for ball players and playmakers. He’s going to talk to my coach to figure out the best date. He said there could be some open dates from November 5th through the 18th.”

What is the latest from Virginia Tech, a school Asante is very high on?

“The coach from Virginia Tech contacted my head coach,” Asante said. “They talked. They said they wanted to see more film, so they are asking for us to send more film.”

Iowa State, Kansas State, Nebraska and Texas A&M have extended scholarship offers to Asante, who claims no favorites at this point and is waiting to see which other programs come through.

Asante, who carries a 3.7 GPA, entered Coffeyville as a full qualifier. He plans to enroll in college in January of 2007, so this will be a factor in his recruitment. Asante was red-shirted in his first season at Coffeyville, so he will have three years of eligibility remaining wherever he ends up.

The Season…

After last weekend’s 59-7 win over Dodge City, Coffeyville is now 7-2 on the season. Asante racked up nine tackles (including two solo efforts) in the win. A playmaker all season long, he has tallied nine tackles-for-loss on the season.

Coffeyville faces Fort Scott in the first round of the Region 6 playoffs this weekend.
