Four-star WR Doesn’t Make Trip

Four-star wide receiver recruit Jay Smith did not make his previously scheduled official visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend, but, according to his father, the Hokies remain very much in the race for his signature. The 6-3, 200-pound Lake Taylor (Norfolk, VA) standout seems to be focusing on four schools at this point in his recruiting process.

“He didn’t make it to Virginia Tech,” Jay’s father, Mordecai, said. “He felt bad, but his brother is a cornerback and a quarterback for the junior varsity squad and he wanted to support him at his game on Saturday. The JV game is usually on a Thursday, but it was postponed until Saturday. Jay told me he wanted to go to Virginia Tech, but Matthew has supported him so he wanted to be there for him. And he said Virginia Tech has other games this year. Plus, I think he was tired. He told me he was mentally fatigued. He had a lot of work to do this week.”

Smith does plan on making an unofficial visit to N.C. State this week for the Thursday night game versus Florida State.

“We plan on being there,” Mordecai said. “We’re going to go up and come right back.”
