The USA Today Coaches’ Poll and A.P. Poll were released on Tuesday
afternoon, and Virginia Tech moved up in each set of rankings. The Hokies are
#14 in the nation by USA Today and #16 by the A.P. They are the second highest
ranked team in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Four ACC teams find themselves ranked in the latest polls. Florida State, the
Hokies, Clemson and Miami are the four teams that are expected to compete for
the conference championship this season.

Florida State defeated the Miami Hurricanes 13-10 in the Orange Bowl on
Monday night. After such a hard fought game, the Seminoles will get a break in
Week 2 by playing host to Troy State on Saturday. That should be an easy win for
the ‘Noles.

Clemson blew out Florida Atlantic 54-6, but they lost superstar linebacker
Anthony Waters to a torn ACL in the process. They have their first test of the
season on Saturday when they travel to Chestnut Hill to take on Boston College.
The Tigers lost to BC at home last season, 16-13.

It looked like Miami would beat Florida State at halftime, but the ‘Canes
were whipped in the second half. Like the Seminoles, they will get a break this
weekend, as they host Florida A&M. But they have another tough game in Week
3 when they travel to Louisville.

The Hokies have an easy opener against Northeastern, and they’ll face their
first test of the season on Saturday when they take on UNC in Chapel Hill. If
they get past the Tar Heels, all eyes will look forward to the September 30 date
with Georgia Tech.

Ohio State remains at #1 in the polls, while Texas has risen to #2. The two
teams will meet this Saturday night in Austin, Texas in the biggest game of the
weekend.

Virginia Tech’s game against North Carolina will be televised by ESPN.
Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
