Virginia Tech and Nebraska To Meet On The Gridiron

On Thursday afternoon the Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced that they have entered into a two-game football series with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Hokies will travel to Lincoln in 2008, and Nebraska will play in Blacksburg in 2009.

Virginia Tech and Nebraska have met just once before. In 1996, the two teams faced off in the Orange Bowl, which the Cornhuskers won 41-21. The Nebraska series will replace the originally scheduled Wisconsin deal, which was to send Tech to Wisconsin in 2008 and the Badgers to Blacksburg in 2009.

The dates of each contest have been announced as well. The meeting at Nebraska will take place on September 20, 2008, and the teams will clash in Lane Stadium on September 19, 2009. Nebraska is coached by Bill Callahan, former head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

In addition to Nebraska, the Hokies will play the following BCS conference teams in the coming years: LSU (2007), Cincinnati (2009), Syracuse (2010, 2011), Pittsburgh (2012, 2013) and Ohio State (2014, 2015).
