Boasting over 30 official scholarship offers, Hertford County (Ahoskie, N.C.) defensive tackle recruit Tydreke Powell has established himself as one of the top prospects in the East if not the country. The 6-3, 285-pound prospect discusses his recruitment including which schools, if any, he knows will be in contention for his signature for a long time.

Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia and Virginia Tech are among the programs that have offered the two-time all-state selection. In terms of phone calls received this month, Powell has heard from Miami, among others, and seems impressed by its program.

“It was real big when I got it,” Powell said of the offer from Miami. He received it about two months ago. “I’m a big fan of Miami. It just shocked me when they called. I’m not even going to lie about that. I’m definitely going to get down to their camp this summer.”

Powell acknowledges that it will be tough to narrow his list to five he will officially visit, but three schools seem to have the inside track right now.
