Hughes Drawing 1A Attention

5-11, 175-pound Kempsville (Virginia Beach, VA) defensive back recruit Trenton Hughes performed pretty well at the Scout.com combine in Durham on March 26th, running the 40 in 4.53 seconds and showing off a 33-inch vertical leap. Those numbers were solid, but Hughes feels he can improve upon them in future combines.

“We did pretty good up there,” Hughes said. “I got second team all-combine at cornerback and everything. I’m not too happy with the 40 time there. I was not happy with that when I heard that. That’s all going to change in the next few combines.”

In addition to the Virginia Beach combine in the first week in May, Hughes also plans to head to North Carolina State for an Adidas combine on May 20th. Showing off his speed and athleticism is important, as Hughes is being recruited as a defensive back but played linebacker last season as a junior.

“He played will linebacker for us [in 2005], but he’s going to play corner [in 2006],” Kempsville head coach Jeff McGowan said. “A lot of schools like him at safety. He has real long arms. And, he can really run.”
