2007 Offer: Varina Star Davon Morgan

Earlier this month, Virginia Tech extended an official scholarship offer to Varina (VA) QB/S Davon Morgan . Only a junior, the 6-0 1/2, 180-pound Morgan is receiving heavy interest from a number of other Division 1A programs but Tech is his first official offer.

“A lot of schools are interested in him,” Varina assistant coach Blanda Wolfe said. “A lot of the same schools that were interested in Brandon [Minor] are interested in Davon. The first school to formally offer is Virginia Tech.”

An outstanding athlete, Morgan played quarterback and free safety for the Blue Devils. Offensively, he took charge once Minor went down early in the season with a hip injury and never looked back. He completed 70-138 passes for 1,402 yards, 20 touchdowns and only threw six interceptions. He added 505 yards rushing on 75 carries and scored seven touchdowns. Morgan was named Capital district offensive player of the year for his performance.

Defensively, he had nine interceptions in just nine games at safety and was named to the Richmond Times-Dispatch first-team all-metro defense.
