Weekend Visitors: The UNC Game

The 4 and 5-star recruits keep rolling to Blacksburg. This weekend, Virginia Tech is scheduled to host 5-star defensive tackle Gerald McCoy while 4-star defensive end Jason Adjepong is trying to make it as well. The two prospects are expected join Liberty (Bedford, VA) star Daryl Robertson on official visits this weekend.

Gerald McCoy
DT, 6-4, 285, Southeast (Oklahoma City, OK)

The Contenders: LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech

Official Visits: Notre Dame – 10/14, Southern Cal – 11/04, Virginia Tech – 11/25, Miami – 12/16. 5th official is up for grabs.

McCoy had great official visit experiences at both Notre Dame and Southern Cal. Virginia Tech will have its chance this weekend. While Virginia Tech seems like a longshot, McCoy did express initial interest in Virginia Tech and, with an official visit, anything is possible. He has been to Oklahoma on a number of occasions, but it is uncertain just which program may have the edge right now.

We hope to know more in terms of where McCoy may be leaning following this weekend’s visit.

Jason Adjepong
DE, 6-3, 245, 4.7, Carteret (N.J.)

Contenders: Boston College, Georgia, Iowa, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech

Official Visits: Michigan – 10/07, Virginia Tech – 11/25. No other dates set to our knowledge.

Adjepong hasn’t named any recent favorites. In fact, he’s been pretty quiet on the recruiting front until recently, but Virginia Tech did impress him on an unofficial visit this June.

“Actually, our wide receiver/d-backs coach on my team is a [Virginia Tech] alum,” Adjepong said back in June. “So I went down there with him and he told me a whole bunch. He told me a whole bunch about it. I live in a town where we are a certain type of people, so I knew if Virginia Tech worked for him then it probably work for me. I went down there and saw it with my own eyes and loved it.”

Michigan getting an official visit probably puts the Wolverines in serious contention, with another school to watch out for being Rutgers. Adjepong has liked the in-state program from the beginning and a successful season couldn’t have hurt the Scarlett Knights’ chances.

Stay tuned for an update with Adjepong following his planned official visit to Virginia Tech. At last check, his mother said he was definitely trying to make the trip but wasn’t sure if it was a definite.

Daryl Robertson
DT, 6-3, 300, Liberty (Bedford, VA)

Robertson, a very good defensive tackle prospect for a very successful in-state program, committed to Virginia Tech in July. An offensive lineman and defensive lineman, he has helped Liberty to a 10-1 overall record this season including last week’s opening round playoff victory.

Robertson is an excellent addition to the Hokies. He is a solid 3-star prospect and a hard worker with good athleticism and quickness off the ball.

Other important visits…

A couple of key Virginia Tech targets will be making official visits elsewhere this weekend. This includes 4-star LB Vidal Hazelton is scheduled to go to Miami after visiting Southern Cal last weekend.
