Thacker to Visit VT

Doug “Budd” Thacker, a 6-2 ½, 250-pound defensive lineman/offensive guard out of Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida, will make an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech today and tomorrow. The name may sound familiar to Hokie fans, as Thacker’s father, who is also named Doug, played for Virginia Tech in the 1970s.

Budd does not yet have an offer from Virginia Tech, but has been in contact with the staff.

“He received a ton of offers in the spring,” Seminole head coach Mick Harris said. Seminole sent three players to Division 1A schools last year. “Houston, South Florida – every school in Florida except for Miami, Florida and Florida State has offered, Maryland, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Mississippi State…there are a lot of them. Budd thought last year that he would play out his senior season this fall and then see which schools had offered. That’s what he’s doing now.”

A versatile recruit, Thacker primarily plays defensive tackle but has played some defensive end. He mans the right offensive guard position as well. Included among his strengths are quickness, strength and playing at a high energy level.
