5-9, 170-pound Rashad Carmichael wasn’t a starter at Gwynn Park (Brandywine, MD) until this, his senior season. He made the most of his opportunities last season, corralling a team high five interceptions as a back-up cornerback. In a full-time role, he’s making the most of his playing time on both sides of the ball.

“He’s having a great season,” Gwynn Park head coach Danny Hayes said of Carmichael. “Defensively, there really have been no passes thrown his way. We put him on the other team’s top receiver. Actually, we probably have only had a few passes completed against us all year. He’s also running the football this year. Every game, he has gone over 100 yards.”

Carmichael has helped Gwynn Park to a 6-0 record and #4 team ranking in the Maryland/Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia area. Though he may be small for a running back, Carmichael, who is nicknamed “Rock”, runs with a lot of power according to his coach. The 4.49 40 speed and outstanding overall athleticism don’t hurt, either.

“He’s both categories,” Hayes said when asked what type of runner Rashad is. “He can run with power and finesse. He can do it all. He has tremendous power and explosion as a runner. He can see the whole field. His strength is making people miss.”
