Seneca Valley Standout Commits to Tech

According to the Washington Post print edition, Seneca Valley (Germantown, MD) tight end Andre Smith has committed to Virginia Tech over offers from Kansas, Marshall and Virginia.

At 6-4, 235 pounds, Smith possesses good quickness and athleticism. He posted a 4.28 shuttle time at the Nike camp at Penn State. His time was the second fastest among tight end recruits. He also posted a 29-inch vertical leap at the same event.

As a junior last season, Smith, a two-way player, made eight catches for 200 yards and three touchdowns on offense and had 70 tackles with four sacks on defense. He played tight end and defensive end, respectively.

Smith becomes Virginia Tech’s ninth commitment, the third from the state of Maryland, of the 2006 recruiting class. The primary recruiter is Tony Ball.
