Vassallo Signs with VT

For those who thought Virginia Tech’s 2005 men’s basketball recruiting class was filled, think again. Not only has Tech added one more player to the class, but the player is a very, very good one. A.D. Vassallo, a 6-6, 215-pound wing guard/forward who was rated a 4-star prospect coming out of high school by Scout.com, will sign with Virginia Tech.

This season, Vassallo played for Hargrave Military Academy’s post-graduate program and helped the team to a 28-1 record. He was the second leading scorer on the squad.

Vassallo becomes the fourth member of Virginia Tech’s 2005 recruiting class, joining post players: 6-9 center/power forward Hyman Taylor, 6-7 power forward Terrance Vinson and 6-8 power forward Cheick Diakite. He originally signed with the University of Richmond, but decided to sign with Virginia Tech following the departure of former U of R head coach Jerry Wainwright.

Comments

My only experience seeing A.D. play was in the Commonwealth Classic earlier this year. There, Vassallo displayed a very solid all around game. He has a nice jump shot and a consistent mid-range game. His best assets may be that he plays under control and seems to understand the game pretty well. He has the ability to pass, shoot, dribble and defend.

This is an excellent addition to Virginia Tech’s squad and I expect him to contribute solid minutes next season.
