Three Hokies Drafted

Three Hokies Drafted

Eric Green , Vincent Fuller and Jon Dunn were all drafted by the NFL this past weekend, the 12th year in a row and
17th out of the last 19 that Hokies have been selected in the draft. Green went in Round 3 to Arizona, Fuller went in
Round 4 to Tennessee, and Dunn was picked in Round 7 by Cleveland.

Among the Hokies who went unpicked were QB Bryan Randall, DE Jim Davis, OG James Miller, and P Vinnie Burns. Channel
10 out of Roanoke said on their Sunday night 11:00 broadcast that Davis signed a free agent contract with the
Jacksonville Jaguars, where he’ll join former Hokie teammates Ernest Wilford and Nick Sorensen.
Within the next couple
of days, many of the other undrafted Hokies will be signing free agent contracts.

(Added 4/25/05, 1:00 pm:  The Newport News Daily Press is reporting that
Randall
signed a free agent contract
with the Atlanta Falcons.)

Arizona’s draft was one of the strongest, and it had an ACC flavor. In addition to Green, the Cardinals drafted
Antrel Rolle out of Miami and Darryl Blackstock and Elton Brown from Virginia. The Cards also picked up JJ Arrington,
who played for California against the Hokies in the 2003 Insight Bowl.

In going to Cleveland, Dunn will meet up with former Hokies Andre Davis, Ben Taylor, and Lee Suggs.

Since 1987, the Hokies have had players drafted in every season except 1989 and 1993. Over those 19 years, 56 Hokies
have been drafted, an average of almost three per year, putting this year’s crop right around that average.

In all, the ACC had 36 players selected in the draft, led by Florida State with nine, including two of the
conference’s five first-rounders. Virginia was second with seven selections, including first-rounder TE Heath Miller,
and Miami was third with five draftees, which didn’t include QB Brock Berlin but did include underclassmen Roscoe
Parrish (2nd round) and Frank Gore (3rd round).
