Heyward-Bey May Decide Early

Darrius Heyward-Bey had previously wanted to wait until after his senior season to make a decision. Now, he is thinking more about committing before or during the season so he can focus on academics.

“I’ve been thinking that waiting until after the season to make a decision may not be the best thing for me,” Heyward-Bey said. “After the season is over, I’ll have my schoolwork to focus on and I can’t have coaches coming in and calling all the time. That’s probably not good for me. Now I’m thinking about committing before or maybe during the season.”

McDonogh’s (Owings Mill, MD) 6-3, 195-pound, super-athletic wide receiver claims somewhere around 10 or 11 scholarship offers. He had been receiving some interest from other programs including Florida and Virginia Tech, but says that he will concentrate mainly on the schools that have offered thus far.

“I’m not worried about it,” Heyward-Bey said about getting more scholarship offers. “I figure I have offers from all the schools I’m going to get offers from. I’m just going to look at those schools that have offered. If another school comes in I might take a glance but I’ll probably just continue to focus on the ones that have already offered. I’ll focus on the 10 or 11 I have and move on from there.”
