Sheil Discusses Top Schools

Centreville standout offensive tackle Pat Sheil realized last month just how hectic the recruiting process can be. Coaches swarmed to the Clifton (VA) school to talk to the 6-7, 260 pound prospect, who is now up to 14 official scholarship offers. Sheil hopes to decide this summer as he had planned, yet despite his experience last month, he is willing to push his decision further back even if it means carrying it over into the Fall.

“May was a critical month,” Sheil said. “I got to see how much hassle the recruiting process is in just one month of calls. So going into September, knowing coaches can call you all the time, I know it’s going to be a real hassle. It would be nice to decide by this summer, but at the same time I’m not afraid to push it back. Time is not a big factor for me anymore. I’m going to make my decision when I’m 100 percent sure where I want to go.”

The May evaluation period was informative for Sheil in learning more about other schools in the mix. He was able to determine which schools wanted him more than the others.

“All of the schools had one phone call and they all used it, but some schools that had offered me didn’t call, and that just shows me how important I am to them,” Sheil said. “The evaluation period was useful. All of the coaches that came in to our school were great guys. I got to learn about schools I didn’t know so much about. Some schools got stronger on my list.”
