Simmons Sizzles at Combine

Landstown (Virginia Beach, VA) star linebacker Deveon Simmons has received 17 scholarship offers thus far, with the most recent coming from SEC powers Florida and Georgia. During the Virginia Beach combine earlier this week, he showed why he has received so many offers.

“At the combine I ran a 4.39 in the 40 and I bench pressed 185 pounds 16 times,” Simmons said. Size-wise, Simmons says he is currently 6-0, 208 pounds. “4.39 is the fastest time I have ever run. It wasn’t the fastest time there though. A player from Bayside High School beat me.”

According to Simmons, schools that were on hand to see the combine included Nebraska, Michigan, NC State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Georgia. All of these programs, with the exception of Michigan, have offered Simmons.

As a junior last year, the first-team Group AAA all-state performer totaled 91 tackles including 42 tackles-for-loss and six sacks from the middle linebacker position. Landstown Head Coach Chris Beatty says the one thing that stands out the most about Deveon is his explosiveness.
