2005 Target: Kitt Pommells

UVa is one of four teams to have officially offered Paterson Catholic (NJ) star Kitt Pommells . Maryland, Rutgers, and Syracuse join the Cavs on the early offer list, which will likely grow quite a bit over the ensuing months.

“Everybody is looking at him,” Paterson Catholic Head Coach Benjie Wimberly said. “USC (Southern California), Florida State, Oklahoma, and most of the ACC and Big East programs are interested. UVa has offered, and so has Syracuse, Rutgers, and Maryland. UVa has been looking at him since he was a sophomore, so I think he’s a big player for them. Boston College and UNC are showing very heavy interest.”

Pommells is a 6-1, 196 pound prospect who fields many positions for his team. He plays wide receiver and free safety but also lines up at running back and linebacker. As a junior, he earned first-team all-area and first-team all-district honors, and was named to the all-state team as well. Pommells tallied 60 tackles with four interceptions last season on defense, with 35 receptions for 400 yards and 14 touchdowns on offense. He had over 1,000 total yards.

An excellent athlete, Pommells stars in track, notably the 100 and 200 meter events. He also plays varsity basketball.
