Oscar Smith QB with Three Offers

Oscar Smith’s varsity football squad did something last season that it had not done in its past ten seasons…win six games. In just the second year under Head Coach Richard Morgan, Oscar Smith easily accomplished the feat, enjoying a 9-1 regular season record and a berth in the Division 5 Regional Playoffs.

Two key contributors to last year’s team, running back Matthew Scott and wide receiver Dexter Manley, graduate this year. Scott signed with Delaware State and Manley with JMU. Despite the loss of two key performers, Coach Morgan is optimistic about next season. One of the reasons is that he returns one of the state’s top prospects in rising senior quarterback/safety Greg Boone .

Last season, the 6-4, 240 pound Boone completed 75 of 130 passes for over 1,400 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. He rushed for 330 yards and eight touchdowns. At safety, he finished with 40 tackles, 12 pass-breakups, and intercepted five passes. He earned first-team all-district and first-team all-tidewater honors at safety, and earned second-team all-district honors at quarterback as a junior.

Most schools are recruiting Boone as a quarterback, although he has the versatility to line up at as many as five different positions according to Coach Morgan.
