Earlier this afternoon, Rockbridge defensive end Jon Kirchner verbally committed to play for the Virginia Cavaliers. He becomes the fourth player to commit to Virginia for the 2004 class.

Kirchner, whose parents both went to Virginia Tech, faced a tough decision between the Cavs and Hokies. In the end, it came down to a gut feeling in favor of the Cavaliers.

“I committed to Virginia,” said Kirchner. “It’s a big relief to have it out of the way. I’ve visited UVA three times, and each time I went I had a gut feeling like this was the place for me.

“My decision is tough for my dad, because he wanted me to go to Virginia Tech. My mom was more free – she just supported me wherever I went. So it was a tough decision to make.”
