Top Target: Jerod Mayo

At first glance, Kecoughtan’s Jerod Mayo does not look like a linebacker. If anything, he looks more like a safety prospect. But don’t let that fool you folks…Mayo is a full-fledged, hard-hitting, playmaking linebacker who will be one of the most highly recruited players in the state.

What Mayo may not have yet in size, he makes up with his incredible knack for the football.

“His true assets are his strength and speed,” said Kecoughtan head coach Tommy Austin. “He’s a beast. Jerod has a nose for the football. He seems to always be around the football…he seems to just be able to makes plays.”

His ability to make plays is evident when he plays the area’s top competition. In a 10-7 loss to state-champion Phoebus last season, Mayo made a key interception and returned it 70 yards, enabling Kecoughtan to have a chance at knocking off the stalwart Phantoms squad.
