MATTHEWS, N.C. — The Virginia Tech coaching staff has been open and honest about how they view the talent level in the state of Virginia for the 2018 recruiting cycle. Because of the lack of depth in the class, the Hokies have only seriously targeted a select few in-state kids this year. One of those is tight end James Mitchell.
The Hokies offered Mitchell, a 4-star tight end according to Rivals, early in the process and have been on his radar from the get go. Defensive Line Coach Charley Wiles has been Mitchell’s primary recruiter, and the entire coaching staff has made an impression on Mitchell in his recruitment.
“Honestly, I like the coaching staff and everybody is genuine people down there,” Mitchell said. “I kind of like what they have going on with the new coaching staff.”
