Buzz must continue to stockpile talent, especially at PF

Last week, Buzz Williams signed his first full recruiting class at Virginia Tech, and it was a good one. To build a successful program in Blacksburg, he has to continue stuffing the pipeline full of ACC level talent year after year.

Here’s a look at next year’s projected scholarship players…

C Joey van Zegeren (6-10, 235, r-Sr.)
G Adam Smith (6-1, 170, r-Sr.)
F Shane Henry (6-8, 190, Sr.)
G Seth Allen (6-1, 195, r-Jr.)
F Zach LeDay (6-7, 235, r-Jr.)
G Devin Wilson (6-4, 190, Jr.)
G Malik Mueller (6-3, 220, r-So.)
G/F Justin Bibbs (6-5, 220, So.)
G Ahmed Hill (6-5, 195, So.)
G Jalen Hudson (6-5, 195, So.)
C Satchel Pierce (7-0, 255, So.)
F Chris Clarke (6-6, 190, Fr.)
F Kerry Blackshear (6-8, 220, Fr.)
G Justin Robinson (6-1, 170, Fr.)

That’s 14 total players, which is one over the allowed NCAA limit. I would not be at all shocked to see Buzz Williams pursue a legit JUCO power forward in the spring who is capable of coming in an making an immediate impact. If he does that, and he succeeds, that would increase the number to 15 scholarship players. Obviously we can expect some turnover between now and next season.
