Thourogood Down To 3; Close To Decision?

Quarterback Lafonte Thourogood headlines the list of Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) rising senior prospects that could be close to a college decision, Dolphins head coach Chris Scott says. Thourogood, a 6-2, 215-pound standout and one of the top overall prospects in the state of Virginia’s 2011 class, has narrowed his list to three schools.

“He has definitely got it down to three,” Scott said. “Not in any particular order, they are West Virginia, Virginia Tech and UVa. Those are basically his top three right now and he is talking with his dad and talking with the coaches and comfortable with those three. He is getting closer to a decision.”

Thourogood has been offered by all three favorites as well as East Carolina, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Stanford and Tennessee. He originally planned to narrow his list by the end of summer, but it seems as though he was able to do so earlier.

“Lafonte just accomplished one of the biggest hurdles in narrowing some of the schools down. He had offers from Notre Dame to play wide receiver, Oregon liked him and there was a lot of other interest in May. He just sat down at the drawing board and looked at how well Coach West and Coach London and the offensive coordinator there were recruiting him, then obviously Coach Newsome and Coach Stinespring at Virginia Tech and West Virginia with Coach Beatty. They all made sense. Those three are solidly after him at quarterback. All three offer great opportunities.”
