It is time for the annual update of the Virginia Tech
Athletics financial information. The following information for the fiscal year
ended June 30, 2009 has, as in prior years, the following standard caveats:

• The 2009 data includes the 2008 football seasons and
  the 2008/2009 basketball season.

• There can be various differences between current and
  prior year numbers within the same school depending on how the school
  chooses to present its reports. Contributions reported will not agree to
  the annual information reports from the athletic fund raising numbers
  because only the applications of those amounts are presented. If the
  funds are not expended, they are generally not reported in the NCAA
  reports.

As in prior years, the information for Virginia Tech and UVA.
is derived from the published NCAA reports on the Virginia Auditor of Public
Accounts web site. Information presented for other schools is derived from the
U.S. Government’s Office of Postsecondary Education (located at http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/).
I have not included other Virginia schools this year because their information
is not very relevant to the Virginia Tech and UVA. information. I have also
included information on the athletic budgets and other data of the
out-of-conference schools we are scheduled to play in football in 2010.

For this report, I have presented the past three years for
both Virginia Tech and UVA. In the first presentation, the Virginia Tech numbers
are presented for the past three years and a report of the changes between the
2009 and 2008 years are also reported.
