Virginia Tech has received a commitment from Ball State transfer wide receiver Damon Hazelton, Jr.   He will enroll at Tech this summer, sit out the 2017 season due to transfer rules, and be eligible to play in the 2018 season.

Hazelton played as a true freshman for Ball State in 2016, and he caught 51 passes for 505 yards and four touchdowns in just nine games.  He was second on the team in receiving despite his young age.  Hazelton has good size, at 6-2, 209, which is the type of receiver the Hokies are looking for.

The Baltimore native was not highly recruited out of high school, partly because he did not play wide receiver full-time until his senior season.  He was a running back before that position change.  Despite limited experience as a wideout, he had a big season as a true freshman at Ball State, which suggests that he is ready for a bigger challenge.

Hazelton will have three years of eligibility remaining after he sits out in 2017.  A short highlight video of his freshman year at Ball state is provided below, followed by a longer video of his high school senior year film.

  1. Liked the highlight reel: He looks for the ball. goes back, goes over receivers, high-points the ball and plenty of YAC. Like his size and as a past RB, may have some speed. Anyone have a 40 time?

    1. Agree 100%, instantly reminded me of Ford, just wish he could play right away!

  2. Fuente is sure loading up on some good looking WR’s. 2018 cant get here quick enough. His high light film shows some strong hands and the skill to go after the ball.
