Virginia Tech MBB Lands Commitment From Khadim Sy

Virginia Tech has its first commitment for the class of 2016.

Khadim Sy, a 6’10”, 230-pound power forward/center prospect out of Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA), pledged to Virginia Tech over offers from Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Purdue and Wake Forest. The news was released via Upward Stars’ Twitter account (Sy played for the Upward Stars AAU organization), and a number of other outlets have confirmed the commitment as well.

Corey Evans of HoopSeen.com, who has spoken with Sy regarding his commitment, reported that the Oak Hill Academy product took a trip to Blacksburg this past weekend. The talented post prospect also visited Purdue, Kansas State and Georgia Tech.

Scout.com and Rivals.com rank Sy as a 3-star recruit.

With Sy in the fold, Virginia Tech’s frontcourt depth chart (scholarship players only) now looks like this:

Seniors: Johnny Hamilton, Zach LeDay
Juniors: Satchel Pierce
Sophomores: Kerry Blackshear Jr.
Freshmen: Khadim Sy

  1. Love the base that Buzz is building. VT will reap the benefits in the next three years. I’m buying VT stock.

    1. No but that’s a gold mine in our backyard. Would be fantastic if Buzz was able to “hit the mother lode” every year or two.

  2. Hi Chris, great info! I remember that VT has been looking for more big men. Congrats to KS for joining the Hokies!

What does this mean for VT? How hard is it to recruit a 4* potential center over a 3*? Thanks!

    1. Just a guess, of course, but he may be a 4* by the time he gets here if I read Rev Zeke correctly. Seems he’s on an upward trend.
