DE Targets Patrick Jones II, Zack Gilbert Expected To Visit

Heading into this weekend, Virginia Tech has one defensive end commitment in the class of 2016 in Southwest Onslow (Jacksonville, N.C.) standout Jimmie Taylor IV. Frank Beamer and company are expecting two top remaining defensive end targets in Blacksburg this weekend, though, including Patrick Jones II and Zack Gilbert.

Jones is a 6’5″, 230-pound senior out of Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. Gilbert is a 6’3″, 245-pound senior out of South Mecklenburg in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both players plan to be in Blacksburg on official visits.

TSL confirmed Jones’ plans earlier this week. In addition to an offer from Virginia Tech, Jones also claims scholarship offers from California, Duke, Illinois, Marshall, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Wake Forest.

Jones, who took to Twitter to express his excitement about this weekend, has narrowed his list to three schools: Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Pitt, which is where Zack’s father played his college football, could be tough to beat in the end, but it appears Tech will get a close look this weekend.

Hokie commitments Joshua Jackson (QB, Saline High School in Michigan) and Sam Denmark (WR, Hanahan High School in South Carolina) are also expected to make official visits this weekend. Following the Duke game, stay tuned for a rundown of those other prospects we confirm to be in Blacksburg.
