Deon Newsome Arrested, Suspended

Deon Newsome was arrested for driving while intoxicated and public intoxication on Sunday morning, according to a report by the Roanoke Times. Newsome, a r-sophomore wide receiver, has been suspended from competition by Virginia Tech.

Newsome’s arrest took place at approximately 6:20am in the Walmart parking lot in Christiansburg on Sunday morning.

As a r-freshman last season, Newsome had 19 carries for 93 yards, as well as seven receptions for 19 yards. His playing time has dropped as a sophomore. Through seven games, he has played just seven snaps on offense and another 24 on special teams.

Newsome was also suspended from the Military Bowl for a violation of team rules.

  1. There but for the Grace of God go I. A young man, a disappointing day and the immaturity and bad luck that goes with youth. Take responsibility, face the music and turn it around. Running away won’t solve anything.

  2. Agee with Jaden. A lot was expected of him this year and his football future with the Hokies appears slim with this being his second suspension. Hope he can get his life back in in order. Might need new surroundings at a different school.

  3. Hopefully he is getting help and attention that is needed. That high a BAC and the location where he was arrested is alarming.

    Football at the end of the day is just a game and life is way more important.
