Three VT Targets Announce Commitment Dates

Between July 25 and August 1, three more Virginia Tech class of 2016 targets will have made verbal commitments.

Robbie Robinson

Phoebus (Hampton, VA) athlete Robbie Robinson, will be the first to decide.

The 5’9″, 165-pound rising senior, recruited by most schools as a cornerback, will commit on Saturday, July 25, between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Arizona State, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Penn State, Stanford, Virginia and Virginia Tech are among the schools that have offered Robinson, who as of this writing has not revealed a list of finalists.

Virginia Tech likely won’t be the pick here, though the Hokies did extend a scholarship offer earlier this year.

Tino Ellis

DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) 4-star wide receiver Tino Ellis will make his college commitment on Friday, July 31. Of the three players mentioned in this update, Virginia Tech’s best chance is with Ellis, a 6’1″, 190-pound prospect who is also considering Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, Rutgers and West Virginia.

We believe Ellis’ decision will come down to Maryland and Virginia Tech.

Phillip Patterson

Another Tech wide receiver target, Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) standout Phillip Patterson, revealed this past Friday that he will announce his commitment on Saturday, August 1, at 1 p.m.

The 6’2″, 180-pound Patterson recently released a list of six finalists that includes Duke, North Carolina, Penn State, Old Dominion, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. However, Patterson said in this TSL Pass article on June 30 that he plans to visit Tennessee on July 17. Tennessee recently offered, and the fact that Patterson plans to visit indicates strong interest on his part.

For Virginia Tech, the key is getting the Marlins rising senior to make a visit. He has not yet visited Tech. If he doesn’t before he commits, obviously it’s tough to see him choosing the Hokies. Patterson has taken trips to all other finalists.
