Virginia Tech won one game of a three series against Pitt, but that’s all they needed to get into the ACC Tournament.  The Hokies (27-26, 13-16) will face UNC at 3pm on Tuesday afternoon in a single elimination play-in game.

After two tough 7-0 losses on Thursday and Friday, the Hokies finally found their stroke on Saturday.  Catcher Andrew Mogg had a grand slam and six RBIs as Tech ralled from a 6-2 deficit.  They scored seven runs in the top of the eighth, and that was the difference in the game.

The Hokies will be the #9 seed in the ACC Tournament, and they’ll face the 8th-seed Tar Heels.  Recent history has not been kind to the boys wearing maroon and orange.  UNC has won 23 of the previous 24 meetings.  Before Tech beat the Heels back on April 17, UNC hadn’t lost to the Hokies since 2007.  Overall, VT has only beaten the Tar Heels twice since a 17-7 victory back on March 30, 1976.

The good news is the teams split a two-game series in Blacksburg this year.  The Hokies won an 8-3 Friday night contest, with UNC beating Tech 11-10 the next day.  The third game of the series was washed out by rain.

Tuesday’s game will be televised by RSN at 3pm.  Check your local listings.
