Two New Offers For Virginia Tech LB Target Tavante Beckett

The past week has been very good to Indian River (Chesapeake, VA) rising senior linebacker Tavante Beckett.

On May 5, the 6’0″, 215-pound junior scored an offer from Virginia Tech, which had been eying the super-productive talent for months.

Virginia Tech may have gotten things rolling offer-wise for Beckett, who started this week off by adding scholarship offers from East Carolina and Wisconsin. He entered the month of May with two offers, from Delaware and Marshall, respectively.

Beckett played for Chesapeake high school football powerhouse Oscar Smith this past season, racking up 131 tackles including 16 sacks. He also had five fumble recoveries for head coach Richard Morgan. Beckett has since transferred to Indian River, where he’ll team up with 4-star Jaquan Yulee to form one of the top linebacker duos in the state.

“My senior year is about to be a ball,” Yulee said. “It’s going to be amazing knowing we’ve got Beckett, who came from Smith. We’re going to have the best linebacker corps in the state. I’ll make that a fact. We’re going to do something special this year. I want everybody to keep sleeping on us.”

Beckett attended a Virginia Tech Junior Day recruiting event in February. Stay tuned for more on the standout prospect soon.

  1. Looks like he’d be a great fit in our defense. Definitely more similar in terms of size/measurables at LB than Yulee. Of course it would be great to get both. Gotta love his production, 131 tackles, 16 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries. Playing for Oscar Smith. Could see him playing at 225-230. Dude’s a baller.

    1. similar in size historically for VT Lbs, not for power conference LB in general. Our LBs tend to the smaller side. Our starting ML (Williams) at 215 lbs last year IMO is just too light. I’d like to see a 6-2 235 lb like Yulee make it in our system at that position. However, there is a good chance he is just a biscuit or two away from DE or DT instead.

  2. This guy is a football player. Love the way he tackles. Reminds me of Vince Hall. Got to get this guy!!!!

    GO HOKIES!!!

  3. Go figure. Maybe we should take the reverse approach and be the last to offer instead of the first.
