Pride Joins VT’s Class Of 2016

Greer (S.C.) standout Troy Pride Jr. verbally committed to Virginia Tech on Friday, giving the Hokies five commitments in total in the class of 2016. Pride is the third cornerback prospect to commit to Tech in this class, joining a pair of Maryland natives in Kareem Felder and Myles Wolfolk.

Rivals ranks Pride as a 3-star recruit. In addition to the scholarship offer from Virginia Tech, the talented defensive back received interest from Georgia, NC State and Wake Forest, among others. Pride visited all four schools this year, including UGA this weekend.

Virginia Tech figures to lose at least one cornerback, Donovan Riley, following the 2015 season. Kendall Fuller declaring for the NFL Draft is a real possibility as well, and if he does the 2016 scholarship breakdown at cornerback would be as follows…

Seniors: Chuck Clark
Juniors: Brandon Facyson, Greg Stroman
Sophomores: Terrell Edmunds, Shawn Payne
Red-shirt Freshmen or Sophomores: DuWayne Johnson, Mook Reynolds, Adonis Williamson (CB or S)
2016 COMMITS: Kareem Felder, Troy Pride Jr., Myles Wolfolk

Even if Fuller declares for the NFL after the 2015 season, there does not appear to be a big need at corner following the commitments of Felder, Pride and Wolfolk. Tech likes to stock up on corners, though, so don’t be surprised if the Hokies add one more to the fold, depending of course on who may want to come on board.

We will have more on Pride’s commitment soon. In the meantime, check out his junior season highlights below.

  1. Watched highlight film two nights in a row…he’s very competitive to start, has good pass breakup skills, and good speed. Looks like a good haul in for the Hokies. Hope he is smart enough to stay where he belongs! AT VT Baby!!

    1. That’s correct. Caught that myself and was correcting that while you asked the question. The article has been updated. Nice class of corners for the Hokies so far.
