VT Offers Hoyt Grayshirt Opportunity

Virginia Tech has extended a scholarship offer to 6’5″, 275-pound offensive lineman Zachariah Hoyt, the Roanoke Times has reported. Hoyt is a senior out of Salem High School (Salem, VA), which reached the 4A state championship game this past season.

Hoyt has also received scholarship offers from Pittsburgh and BYU. He took an official visit to Pitt this past weekend, an experience he told TSL sister site DreamBackfield.com “went great.”

An official visit to BYU is reportedly scheduled for this weekend.

Virginia Tech, which already has a commitment from Salem senior RB/WR Coleman Fox, has offered the Salem standout a “grayshirt” opportunity. This means that if Hoyt were to accept he would sign a letter of intent with the rest of the class of 2015 but would not enroll until January of 2016.

Stay tuned to TSL for more on this latest development.

  1. Great motor. Watched him every game this year. I think he is a great get if he commits to us!

  2. Is Mr. Hoyt an SEC caliber lineman ? When will Beamer upgrade RECRUITING at the offensive line positions ?

    1. It would seem to me that we got what we could get. I’m not expecting a higher caliber until there is a more solid program led by a new head coach.

  3. I like that film. He’s not happy unless he has demolished you and then somebody else. Knows how to chip then get to second level. Looks like a kid that’s a little mean and plays until the whistle echoes. I think he’d be a good pick up for us.

    1. What took us so long to offer? Good speed, nasty attitude, not happy unless he demolishes you,
mean, he’s a senior, all that and and a bag of chips and he’s right under our nose in Salem Va.
