2014 Week In Review: 8th Edition

The “Week In Review” is back with the latest on how Virginia Tech-bound recruits are performing on the gridiron in the 2014 season. Of note this week is tailback Deshawn McClease, who is now Oscar Smith High School’s all-time leading rusher and scorer after last week’s performance.

2014 WEEK IN REVIEW: 8TH EDITION

Adonis Alexander, S, Independence (Charlotte, N.C.)

Independence’s defense was once again dominant in a 65-0 victory over Garinger. The Patriots (8-0) have recorded six shutouts and have allowed just 24 points all season.

Jahque Alleyne, DB/WR, Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA)

Ocean Lakes rolled First Colonial, 63-7, for its seventh win in as many games. Alleyne had three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Defensively, he was credited with one pass break-up.

Mike Arnold, OL, Winter Haven (FL)

Winter Haven defeated Sebring, 41-13, for its sixth straight win. The Blue Devils (7-1) have a bye before taking on Lake Region on Halloween.

Chris Cunningham, TE/DE, Atlantic Coast (Jacksonville, FL)

The Stingrays (4-3) had a bye last week. Cunningham has 10 catches for 189 yards and four scores touchdowns on the season. He has also recorded a sack, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

Damien Dozier, DE/OLB, Knightdale (Raleigh, N.C.)

Knightdale surrendered a 10-0 halftime lead in a 12-10 loss to Southeast Raleigh. The Knights are now 3-5 on the season.

Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Dan River (Ringgold, VA)

Dan River bounced back from a loss to Altavista with a 42-0 win over Campbell. The Wildcats are now 5-3. In last week’s victory, Edmunds rushed seven times for 57 yards and a touchdown. He also had a 50-yard touchdown reception.

Coleman Fox, RB/WR, Salem (VA)

Fox had five rushes for 90 yards and two touchdowns (10, 65) as Salem downed Blacksburg, 58-17. The Spartans (7-0) led 42-0 at the half.

Darius Fullwood, DE, Good Counsel (Olney, MD)

Good Counsel edged St. John’s College in overtime, 20-19. The Falcons, who remain undefeated in the WCAC at 4-0, are 7-1 this season.

Trevon Hill, DE, Salem (Virginia Beach, VA)

Salem rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 28-0 win over Princess Anne. The Sun Devils (7-1) have a bye this week.

DuWayne Johnson, CB, H.D. Woodson (Washington, D.C.)

H.D. Woodson’s Warriors are winners of seven straight. The latest victory came last week over Ballou by a score of 26-7.

Fredrick Johnson, OL, Royal Palm Beach (FL)

Royal Palm Beach defeated Forest Hill, 35-6, to move to 6-1 on the season.

Harry Lewis, DT, Phoebus (Hampton, VA)

Phoebus rallied from 17 down to defeat Woodside, 21-17. The Phantoms are now 7-1.

Carson Lydon, LB, East Lake (Tarpon Springs, FL)

East Lake returned to action following a bye week and escaped with a 10-8 victory over Countryside. Lydon had four solo tackles in the win, which improved his team to 7-0 on the season.

Deshawn McClease, RB, Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA)

Deshawn McClease is now Oscar Smith’s all-time leading rusher after his 220-yard rushing performance in last week’s 55-0 win over Grassfield. The Tech-bound senior has amassed 4,010 yards rushing in his high school career. McClease also had three touchdowns in the win, giving him 68 career touchdowns, good enough to become the school’s all-time leading scorer.

Mook Reynolds, CB, Northern Guilford (Greensboro, N.C.)

The Northern Guilford Nighthawks (7-1) rallied from a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to escape with a 22-21 win over Eastern Guilford. Reynolds came through with five receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown in the win. The 4-star standout also had eight total tackles and three pass breakups.

Eric Whitehead, DT, Arsenal Tech (Indianapolis, IN)

Arsenal fell to Bishop Chatard by a score of 46-24. Chatard scored the final 21 points of the game to secure the victory. Arsenal (4-3) takes on Franklin Central this week.

VT CLASS OF 2016

Logan Byrd, QB, Veterans (Kathleen, GA)

Veterans won its first game of the season last week, defeating Perry by a score of 35-7. Byrd scored three touchdowns for the Warhawks (1-6).

Conner ODonnell, WR, Concord First Assembly (N.C.)

Concord First Assembly (1-7) forfeited its game versus Davidson Day. So far this season, O’Donnell has racked up 63 catches for 1,229 yards and six touchdowns.
