Maddy to miss 2-4 weeks after knee surgery

Virginia Tech starting defensive tackle Luther Maddy will undergo surgery Tuesday morning to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, according to head athletic trainer Mike Goforth. The senior from Delray Beach, Florida, is expected to miss 2-4 weeks, including Saturday’s game against Western Michigan. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Tony McPherron at LewisGale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg.

Maddy suffered the tear in the East Carolina game, but played 48 defensive snaps against Georgia Tech. Nigel Williams will replace him as the starter.

Other injury notes:

• Linebacker Dahman McKinnon will also have his meniscus repaired, his in the left knee, on Tuesday and is expected to also miss 2-4 weeks. McKinnon suffered the injury in practice last week and missed the Georgia Tech game.

• Freshman offensive lineman Colt Pettit will undergo season-ending left shoulder surgery on Tuesday. He will be questionable for spring practice.

• Linebacker Sean Huelskamp, who suffered an ACL tear in his right knee at Ohio State, will undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday. He will be questionable for spring practice.

• Defensive back Desmond Frye underwent left shoulder surgery on Sept. 16. He will petition for a medical hardship waiver since he has not redshirted and played in only two games.
