Top 2016 QB Heading To VT Today (Free)

Virginia Tech hosts its second one-day camp of 2014 today, and TSL will be on hand for coverage.

Council Rock North (Newtown, PA) product Brandon McIlwain will be among the visitors. The 6’1″, 205-pound quarterback, a rising junior, boasts scholarship offers from schools all across the country including Auburn, California, Clemson, Florida, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and many more.

Virginia Tech will be McIlwain’s latest visit, but he has been busy seeing schools this year. Auburn, California, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Miami and North Carolina are some of the schools the class of 2016 standout has visited so far. Visits to Penn State and South Carolina are scheduled for later this month as well.

“I really like Coach (Scot) Loeffler,” McIlwain said. “We have talked and I have gotten to know him pretty well. I’m excited to see the school and facilities.”

Surely, when you have made as many college visits as McIlwain has, it can be a challenge to remember all you have seen. McIlwain has a few tricks, though, to help him recall each school.

“I take a lot of pictures,” he said. “I also have my dad’s I-Pad and I’ll take notes. I’m always carrying it with me.”

Stay tuned to TSL for more with McIlwain following today’s visit. In addition to the Keystone State signal caller, here are a few other notables expected at Tech today…

Tremaine Edmunds, OLB/DE/TE, Dan River (Ringgold, VA), Class of 2015, VT OFFER

The 6’4″ Edmunds, younger brother of current Virginia Tech players Trey and Terrell Edmunds, has been to Blacksburg many times and will be back today. Tech is definitely a top contender here, but when a decision will come is unclear at this point.

Deshawn McClease, RB, Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA), Class of 2015, VT OFFER

McClease has been a target of Virginia Tech’s for quite some time. He has also had the Hokies high on his list for quite some and a decision is coming this Wednesday between VT and MD.

Today’s visit will be one of many he has made to Tech.

Richard Burney Jr., TE, Hickory (Chesapeake, VA), Class of 2015

Hickory coach Jupiter Wilson told me last month that Burney intended on camping at Tech today. The 6’5″, 235-pound rising senior does not have an offer from Virginia Tech but has been offered by Virginia and Cincinnati, among others. Could get a look at tight end and defensive end.

– Good Counsel (Olney, MD) Izon Pulley, a 6’4″, 220-pound prospect, is a class of 2016 defensive end prospect expected to participate. Thomas Dale (Chester, VA) rising junior offensive lineman Robert Snead, a 6’7″, 285-pound prospect, is expected to be there as well. Fellow class of 2016 prospects Simeon Gatling (RB/DB, Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley) and Jordan Terry (WR, Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth) have also tweeted their intentions to participate at today’s camp.

Stay tuned to TSL for full coverage of today’s camp. As we get more information (visitor info, camp updates, etc), we’ll be sure to post it on the TSL Pass Recruiting Board.
