Tech beats UMES

The men’s basketball team rebounded from their upset loss to UNC Greensboro by beating Maryland-Eastern Shore 82-66 on Tuesday.  The Hokies are now 8-5, while UMES dropped to 2-9.

Jarell Eddie paced Tech with 17 points and nine rebounds, while freshman point guard Devin Wilson tied a career-high with 16 points.  The Hokies jumped out to a 46-23 halftime lead and then cruised through the final 20 minutes to the easy win.

Tech had 18 assists in this game and commited only eight turnovers.  Freshman guard Ben Emelogu, though he had just two points, chipped in with nine assists and zero turnovers.  Will Johnston and C.J. Barksdale had nine points each, while Trevor Thompson had eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

Unfortunately, forced turnovers continued to be a problem for the Hokies.  They forced juts five turnovers against a less talented, much less athletic UMES team.

The non-conference schedule is now over.  The Hokies will welcome Syracuse into Cassell Coliseum for a 9pm tip next Tuesday.  The game can be seen on The ACC Network.

  1. Some very young, inexperienced young men have to face a better team than VCU Tuesday. It will be a long, ugly night.

    1. It won’t be uglier than VCU…and I’m not sure Syracuse is that much better than VCU. Syracuse plays a 1/2 court game

      1. Hopefully Tech won’t suffer a 0-31 dry spell as with VCU. Still can’t fathom how that could have happened.
