The 2016 matchup with Tennessee at Bristol Motor Speedway became official on Monday morning at a press conference at the track. The Hokies and Vols will meet on September 10, 2016.
Very few details about the game emerged at Monday’s press conference. A promotional video was released, which you can view below.
The record attendance for a college football game is 115,109 at this year’s Notre Dame-Michigan game, which was played in Ann Arbor. If the Tech-Tennessee game sells out, it will easily break that record.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed on Monday. However, the strong rumor is that both teams are guaranteed $4 million, with an extra $500,000 possible if they each sell their allotment of 40,000 tickets.
2016 is setting up to be a great schedule. The Hokies will play Tennessee in Bristol, and they’ll also face Notre Dame in South Bend. Miami, Georgia Tech and UVA are the headlining games on the home schedule that season.
Hard to be impressed compared to my season tickets. Especially what will be endzone seats.
Wow…
I love the fact that EPSN is NOT getting this game…biggest football spectacle ever, and they don’t get a piece…small victories.
That is one of the good things about it. Bet espn wishes it has treated us better.
College Game Day will be at this EVENT for sure!!! Lee Corso and Herbi need to do a race around the track. The promo possibilities are limitless.!!!!
Can we have VT in ALL MAROON and Tennessee in orange?…no whites
Interesting that it will be a CBS game.
ESPN might have given more promos.
One of the UT highlights is them scoring a touchdown vs. UVA. Nice touch.
Can we get both teams’ home entrances? Enter Sandman AND whatever it is they do before running through the T? That would be sweet.
Recruiting, Recruiting did I say Recuiting.
Topic for an article?
Crazy Kool……….
Start investing in telescope stocks now.
I’m thinking they will have a few zip lines across the field so the fans from the endzone can get a closer look. Really they need to let fans on the concourse.
Metallica Live will be the Pre-game concert.
Halftime show will be Miley Cyrus and BStreet Twerking.
Got any for sale? THink I will watch this on tv
ANY game is better viewed on TV….NO game can be EXPERIENCED though a TV!
The seats and the view will suck! The EXPERIENCE will be worth every dime and every minute!! I will gladly take YOUR tickets…I can’t wait!!
Epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For what it’s worth, the people at Soldier Field claim “The all-time collegiate attendance record of 123,000 plus was established November 26, 1927, as Notre Dame defeated the University of Southern California 7–6.” (http://www.soldierfield.net/content/event-history). But either way, 150K will leave that in the dust.
Chris, there needs to be a link from the home page to that promo. The promo was pretty good, and about the only thing that got me excited from the presser. Having the promo link could not hurt ticket sales over the next three years.
Knowing Bruton Smith he’s gonna pump this thing for all it’s worth. And he won’t spare much expense to make it the best spectacle it can be. Interested to see what he has in store for halftime and possibly pregame.
You are dead right. Bruton Smith would not do it unless he was 110% committed. May seem a little far fetched right now, but that man is going to make it happen.
Committed and pumped for the money.
Promo video was sweet! Who did the voice over? Sounded similar to Sam Elliott.

How much will tickets cost?
Tickets start at $40. The average ticket price will be similar to other BMS/NASCAR events ($93). – See more at: http://www.bristolmotorspeedway.com/footballfaq/
Man, I got pumped just watching the video for a game 3 years for now. Going to be insanely awesome!
