Dream Weaver has been the best thing that has ever happened for VT in regards to sports other than football. Past VT AD's didn't even fully know that sports not named football and basketball even existed at VT.
Dave Braine almost single handedly destroyed olympic sports at VT with the less-than-minimal "support" that he provided. Anything outside of football and basket ball to him was a mere after thought.
Please do not confuse the haters with the TRUTH! It really messes with them (although maybe that was your intent).....
Actually, your comments make me laugh more, the proof is in the pudding, name me a sport we are close in to being on the national stage, I mentioned track as the only one I see. Look at the baseball and softball fields after Dream Weaver put money into them, still high school like compared to most major programs. Other facilities for minor sports are average at best. Swimming is good due to the fact that Christiansburg wanted a facility for the town and we participated. Concerning Dave Braine, who I was not a fan of, at least searched for coaches further away than the next office. Most of my comments were directed at 2 almost successes, and I do not think you can dispute those comments. Overall, our success in minor sports is NO laughing matter.
So you think it wasn't ENOUGH money....It IS the "new" American way...let's throw money at it and see if it automatically makes things OK...So not ENOUGH money thrown at the Olympic sports...you blame Weaver? (what Bush not available?)!
How DARE we not win Championships in Olympic sports BEFORE Weaver...I blame him (or Bush) for that too!
You got that right! We were in the wilderness waaaaay too long, and it takes time to build up our athletic programs to be on par with the ACC, NCAA. We're definitely getting closer, and will win one of those non-revenue championships eventually...
Agree...because commitment is there and FINALLY (only when we got in the ACC) so is the money to match!
Well, given our 1st national champ (indiv) was less than 10 years ago (right?) and we're at 11 now, I think we are headed in the right direction. : )

Those without experience shouldn't be so harsh on Weaver. With Weaver fantastic wrestling facilities, soccer facilities, lacrosse facilities, track facilities, softball facilities have been built.
With Braine ... soccer and wrestling shared a locker room with an 8-track, 2-speaker stereo system (and a turntable) to really draw in the recruits. CD players did actually exist during this timeframe, mind you. Wrestling and soccer shared a head coach (Cheynet) who did the best he could with what he had to work with. And the ripped and aged practice clothes were awesome to use. Fundraising - zippy. Yes, we loved walking by the basketball locker room and seeing their juice machine inside. we loved even more practicing in a basement room in Cassell with a huge concrete pillar in the middle of the practice mat. We did have our own water fountain, though.
Weight room? Unless you played football and/or basketball, your weight training times were during crazy hours because we only had one weight room. And guess who got the good hours during the whole year? You guessed it, football even when we were in season and they were out of season.
I wrestled there for 3 years and will be the first to say that I wasn't very good. Having said that, I couldn't have picked Dave Braine out of a lineup if my life depended on it because he never cared to check on us or even introduce himself to us.
I'll also be the first to admit that Braine was hindered with football and basketball probation and non-conference revenue sharing ... thanks, Louiseville. But his support to the olympic sports was non-existant.
