Very logical start. Would love to see a seasoned HC (someone with an Everhart resume) and another solid recruiting assistant (Ben Betts, Red Autry, Palmore). While there's been much talk of former players, we should start with coaches with solid resumes.
I take back Autry....he's not leaving Syracuse.
I'd like to see us give Odom a call. Maybe we could make him the top assistant here.
I'd want to see someone with HC experience as the #1 guy. Bylington and Odom fill the same slot. I would want to see some with strong AAU ties in the #3 slot.
Hardly. This 'coaching carousel' is kind of like what the football team experienced in 1996, when there were a large number of player arrests. If you looked at an absolute number, which was something like 22 or 23, it seemed staggering, but once you broke it down, and really analyzed why guys were getting arrested (like for fake IDs, as if that has never happened at a college before), or the fact that about 1/4 of them (and the most serious) belonged to two players (Tony Morrison and James Crawford), it started to lose that sensationalistic, screaming headline type effect.
Bill Courtney leaves to be the head coach at Cornell. Ryan Odom leaves for family reasons, to get closer to where his wife had a business - always sounded like she has as much say in the situation as he did, which is fine. Stacey Palmore leaves for Georgia, after having been here for FIVE years (Georgia, not Ga State, not Ga Institute for the Insane, but UGA, in the SEC). Dennis Wolff slid from DOBO to head women's coach at VT. Two guys leave this year to coach with a person described as one of their best friends.
I'm sure I'm missing somebody, but of those, it sure doesn't sound like Seth was chasing people away.
I know . . . I know, there is some "other" sinister reason as to why these all left, that caused a guy like Bill Courtney to get a head job, but the 'insiders' simply won't say what it is.
An interesting thing about Odom: he stated wanting to be closer to wife's family in the move to Charlotte; if he did return to VT..that might indicate working for Seth was an unspoken reason also.
