Agree w/u 100%. Nobody wanted to hear it, though. Many fans got their wish, it seems. At the end of the day, it sounds like Seth warranted this with some off the court actions (of which I have no idea), but that doesn't justify the requests for his head related to his ON the court performance...
doesn't nullify anything based on his ON the court performance either, does it?
and, no, very few fans "got their wish." there were certainly a few vocal folks wanted SG gone NOW, but most folks, like me, who were questioning whether or not he'd plateaued were more than willing to give him at least one year...and were rooting for him.
What's a "great job" must be further defined. In terms of ACC jobs, of course it's not a great job. And in terms of the major conferences, it still might not be a great job. But we should be able to get a good mid-major coach to come here. Maybe not Pew, Stevens, or Smart. But we should be able to get most of the others unless they look at their current job as their final destination. If we can't do this, then Weaver, et al. are completely inept.
I don't want to hear the bull about money either. If we can afford to buy out Seth, then we can afford to up the ante to get a good mid-major coach.

Good point. Even if we're a bottom 3rd ACC job, there are still 200 D1 coaches who would view coming to us as an upgrade.
Where do you get your information about head coaches not returning phone calls? Several reports have said that he spoke with Smart, and that there has been contact between Jay Wright (who is probably out), Bruiser Flint, and the guy from Loyola. I don't know where you are getting that head coaches aren't returning calls.
I personally think Lutz would be a good hire. He can recruit, has won before, and would be a good coach.
So, the Illinois job at $3 million wouldn't fly, but VT would for $4 million? Is it that extra million? Do you realize that Shaka wouldn't even take a phone call about the VT job? That he wouldn't even comment on it publicly?
I've nothing against him, he's got a great gig going on in Richmond, and he knows it. He's VCU's version of Frank Beamer right now. I don't blame him for his disinterest.
I do find it funny that some people just imagine that a guy like Shaka, or Gregg Marshall, would give five minutes of time to taking the VT job at any price.
